From Classroom to Carpentry: Northbrook College Student Secures Job After Skills Bootcamp 

There were celebrations all round for a Northbrook College student after they were offered a full-time position with local business Aspect Renovations.  

Freddie Thompson, who enrolled in a Carpentry Skills Bootcamp at the college in April, was offered the role following work experience facilitated by the college.  

Freddie marks the first student from the course to secure employment through the college’s own employer engagement with the local construction industry.  

This milestone demonstrates the college’s commitment to equipping students with real-world skills and creating clear pathways into employment through strong industry partnerships. 

During his time with Aspect Renovations, Freddie worked alongside a qualified carpenter, allowing him to learn a lot on the job, being able to ask questions and check his work as he went. 

He delved into the story of how he got the placement, saying:  
“I attended the interview and immediately felt at ease with Matt, the company proprietor. I was genuinely impressed by his attitude and how he put me at ease. I respected how much he had achieved and his work ethic.  

“I am working with his son, who is a qualified carpenter, and already in the short time I have been with him, I have learned a lot. It’s good to know I can ask lots of questions and check things without being annoying.”  

When asked how he had found his time on the course, he added:  
“The tutoring was fun and engaging.  The fellow students were of varying ages and backgrounds, and we were all keen to learn. The banter was fun, and I really enjoyed being part of a friendly team.”  

“I know I have a long way to go, but I am very grateful to everyone at Northbrook for the support at every turn. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who feels they need a boost and a push to get on the right path.
